The International Soapbox Society is an organization of individuals
committed to the socially responsible exercise of self-expression. Members
continue and extend a tradition, which has struggled to challenge, check
and, at times, correct the flow of information within history's great
civilizations. The legacy of enlightened activism, which has included
Socrates, Benjamin Franklin, and Mohandas K. Gandhi, remains the constant
responsibility of each individual interested in personal liberty.
As corporate mergers create monolithic media superstructures, the International
Soapbox Society remains a forum for the most important, but
often overlooked voice: yours. Wherever individual talent lies, the
I.S.S. encourages its members to boldly accept the call to "diversity
in difference." We welcome writers, musicians, performers, and
pundits, anyone who recognizes that when one voice is censured, all
others are endangered. As such, the Society provides members a cooperative
environment in which ideas and resources may be shared, developed, and
respected.
Above all, the International Soapbox Society believes in the fundamental
importance of each person taking his or her stage, demonstrating the
commitment to the realization of idealism. In the words of M.K. Gandhi:
"You must be the world you wish to see."
